We had the opportunity to speak with Pedro at an exciting time, which was about the time the parliament of the Balearic Islands granted legal personhood to great apes. There was some speculation about what effect this could have on other proposals concerning rights for animals across Europe. We spoke through an interpreter at a park near Pedro’s office. He was very kind and gave me some video footage to use of great apes that were suffering in a variety of situations.
